What is Trauma?

​Trauma or more simply, distressing events in life can be experienced very differently by everyone. It might be the death of a loved one or a pet, bullying experienced when you were a child or as an adult in the work place, sexual abuse or domestic violence, dealing with loss through suicide, surviving a life threatening accident, living in less than ideal circumstances as you were growing up, feeling betrayed by a partner or a friend, dealing with divorce or any manner of personal circumstances that have a negative impact on your ability to enjoy life.

What does Trauma Do?

The effects of living with Trauma include making us anxious, angry, frustrated, feeling that life lacks any joy; it makes us fearful, exhausted and overwhelmed; makes us feel hopeless, and helpless to control our future. It leaves us in a shut down - survival mode and unable to enjoy life to it's fullest.
